ROBERT CAPA: Izrael Capa szemével

Robert Capa a sajtófotózás legendája. Ami legendává tette, hogy a mítoszt látta meg és mutatta be a valóságban, és a valóságot a mítoszban; a mindennapokat a történelemben, és a történelmet a mindennapokban. A milicista halála a spanyol köztársaságiak bukását foglalja össze egyetlen képben, a normandiai partraszállás fotói a D-day történelmi jelentőségét. Az 1948-50-ben Izraelben készült fotói  pedig a zsidó állam megszületésének mítoszát és mindennapjait mutatják be, amit a kiállítás mottójaként választott, Nehemiás próféta könyvében olvasható idézettel lehet jellemezni: „Akik a falon építettek s akik a terhet magukra rakva vitték – egyik kezével dolgozott a munkán, a másik pedig tartotta a fegyvert” (Nehemia, 4,11). Az „Izrael 1948 – Robert Capa szemével” ezen 52 fénykép alapján próbálja bemutatni, hogyan ragadta meg Robert Capa a zsidó állam születésének pillanatait, első lépéseit; hogyan látta a mítoszt és a valóságot: a bevándorlók érkezését, a mindennapi életét, munkáját és a harcokat, az első arab-izraeli háború összecsapásait, életképeit.

Robert Capa is a legend in press  photography. What made him a legend was that he saw and presented the myth in reality and the reality in myth; everyday life in history and history in everyday life.The Death of a Loyalist Militiaman sums up the fall of the Spanish Republicans in one single image, while the photographs of the disembarkation of Normandy show the historical significance of D-Day. His photos taken in Israel in 1948-50, show the myth and daily life of the birth of the Jewish state, which can be described by a quote in the book of the prophet Nehemiah, chosen as the motto of the exhibition: ”They which builded on the wall, and they that bare burdens, with those that laded, every one with one of his hands wrought int he work, and with the other hand held a weapon” (Nehemiah 4.11). The exhibition attempts to show, based on these 52 photographs, how Robert Capa captured the moments the birth and the first steps of the Jewish state; how he saw myth and reality: the arrival of immigrants, their everyday life, work and struggles, the clashes and images of the first Arab-Israeli war.
